About FilterTheGov

We started FilterTheGov for one simple reason: The government won’t protect your water. So we will help you protect it yourself.

It started with a simple test. One of us tested their tap water using an inexpensive home kit. The results were alarming — chloroform, lead traces, and PFAS levels that the local water utility’s “annual report” never mentioned. When we called the water department, they said everything was “within acceptable limits.”

That’s when it clicked: “Acceptable” to the government and “safe” for your family are two very different things.

Our Mission

To give independent Americans the knowledge and tools to secure their own water supply. We cut through the EPA propaganda, the corporate marketing fluff, and the “trust us” government messaging. We do the research so you can make informed decisions.

What We Cover

  • Water Contaminants — What’s REALLY in your tap water (the 12 chemicals they don’t tell you about)
  • Filtration Systems — Honest reviews from pitcher filters to whole-home systems. We test what we recommend.
  • Emergency Prep — Grid-down water collection, purification, and storage for when infrastructure fails
  • Water Independence — Well systems, rainwater harvesting, and off-grid solutions
  • Privacy-First — No smart meters tracking your usage. No data sold to third parties.

Why Trust Us?

We’re preppers, researchers, and independent thinkers. We’re not funded by water utilities or filter manufacturers. We buy every product we review with our own money. When we recommend something, it’s because it works — not because someone paid us to say so.

Our affiliate partnerships help keep the lights on, and we’re transparent about that. Check our Affiliate Disclosure for the full details.

What Makes Us Different

Most water filter blogs are written by marketers who’ve never tested the products. We approach this like engineers and survivalists. We care about:

  • Real contaminant removal data — not marketing claims
  • Systems thinking — one filter isn’t enough for true security
  • Budget tiers — solutions at $100, $1,000, and $5,000+ levels
  • Independence — no dependency on infrastructure that can fail
